Philadelphia Hazardous Waste Collection This Sat, Nov 6

Need to get rid of some household Hazardous Waste?  Drop it off at the final Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection for 2010 is this Saturday, November 6th from 9 AM -3 PM at the Street Department’s Northeast Sanitation Facility at Delaware Avenue (between Castor Avenue and Lewis Street, near I-95’s Allegheny Exit).

Bring HHWs to recycle or dispose including:

  • Old and unused cans of oil-based paint (latex or water-base paint is not hazardous), paint thinner, varnish, paint brush cleaner
  • Cleaning products: Cleaning Solvents, aerosol cans, bathroom & tile cleaner, toilet bowl cleaners, drain cleaner
  • Household/garden products: Pesticides, chemical fertilizer, swimming pool chemicals
  • Automotive & Flammable liquids such as old gasoline and kerosene, antifreeze, used oil, lead-acid batteries & brake fluid
  • Others including: household batteries, rechargeable computer & cell phone batteries, button cell batteries, mercury, PCBs, asbestos & artists paints

Trained staff will assist you to sort & properly handle materials dropped off for this event sponsored by the Philadelphia’s Street Departments.  During the 2010 Household Hazardous Waste Campaign, over 3,200 Philadelphia residents dropped off over 110 tons of potentially hazardous material.  Keep it up, Philly!
