Trail enthusiasts can celebrate more.
The Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) and Circuit Trails Coalition have announced a $150,000 investment to support community-led programming in Greater Philadelphia and southern New Jersey along the Circuit Trails network.
The Community Grant Program, administered by PEC and funded by the William Penn Foundation, aims to support culturally relevant projects and programs on or near the Circuit Trails network, which currently spans 375 miles of completed trail. The program seeks to create a more inclusive and welcoming experience for trail users, with a focus on under-resourced and under-served communities that the 800-mile Circuit Trails network serves.
The Circuit Trails Coalition Community Grant Program is a result of recommendations from the Circuit Trails 2020 Equity of Access to Trails study, which highlighted the need to prioritize equity and inclusivity in trail development. The grant program aims to support projects that align with neighborhood priorities and promote engagement and activities that benefit the local community.
“We want everyone to feel welcome and included in these spaces. These grantees are doing powerful work in their communities and are integrating the trail network into their programs in ways that meet the needs and priorities of their neighbors and the people they serve,” said Sarah Clark Stuart, chair of the Circuit Trails Coalition and executive director of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia.
