Revive Recycled and Upcycled Art Show Coming to Kensington June 8

Not enough sustainable art in your life? Revive, an art show featuring over 5,000 square feet of recycled and upcycled art, is happening at Hancock Garage on June 8 at 7:00 p.m.

All 16 artists were required to use at least 50% recycled/upcycled materials. One of the artists, Sean Brown, uses candy wrappers to recreate notable pop art pieces. Artist and organizer Jaden Remy sketches on “found pieces.” You can learn more about the other artists on his website.

Just to clarify, there’s a slight difference between recycling and upcycling. Recycling is the process of breaking down materials and remaking them into a new product. Upcycling is the process of converting used materials into something new without breaking them down.

This is the first recycled/upcycled art show that Remy – along with the owners of Hancock Garage, David Perry and Stan Gable – have organized. It’s also the first art show at the newly renovated garage.

Hancock Garage, a warehouse located on 2026 North Hancock St. in Kensington, was restored using materials found around the city. It features an upstairs lounge, pool table, stage, DJ booth, and more! It’s a six-minute walk from the Berks St. stop on the Market-Frankford Line.

The show will also feature live music from folk rock collective Kevin and The Shapes. The show itself is free, but beer cups are available for $5. There’s an after party with a DJ that starts at 10:00 p.m., too.

You can RSVP to the event on Facebook to learn more.
