Philadelphia Hosts March For Science: Join the Action

Science supporters of all backgrounds are invited to join a diverse group of other scientists, science communicators, and science supporters in the March for Science this Earth day, April 22, 2017.

Philadelphia will join Washington D.C. and over 350 sister cities in hosting a March for Science show support for the sciences and to advocate public support for scientific research. This event comes as a grassroots response to recent shifts in public policy, which have left science supporters concerned for the future of science in the new administration.

Organizers of the march hope that the event will send a strong message expressing the importance transparency and non-partisanship in scientific research and for political leaders and lawmakers to take scientific evidence into consideration when making policy decisions.

The Philadelphia branch of the March for Science is being coordinated in partnership with the Freethought Society, has been endorsed by the Franklin Institute, and is expecting to gain many more supporters as the event draws nearer. Planners say the time and final route are currently being worked out but that the march will occur midmorning in downtown Philadelphia and will be followed by a rally with guest speakers and entertainment.

The march will begin on April 22 at 10:00 AM at the south side of City Hall at Juniper Street and at 11:00 AM will kick off and head down Market street to Front Street, from Front street to Chestnut street and will end at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing. Find more details here.
