Movies, S’mores, & Food Trucks: Green Week Guide: 8/11 – 8/14

Happy Monday Readers!

Want to celebrate National S’mores day, listen to some local live reggae, or feast on Philly’s Night Market eats? This is your week! We’ve rounded up the best local events happening in Philly this week:

Events for week of August 11 – 14th:
  • Movie Mondays @ the PHS Pop-Up Garden – JAWS: In honor of Shark Week, come out for a screening of “Jaws” at the PHS Pop-Up Garden! Snack on popcorn during the feature, available for a donation to benefit the PHS City Harvest. Monday, August 11th, 7:30 – 10 PM, 1438 South St., Free.
  • Shooting Stars and S’mores @ the Schuykill Center: Celebrate National S’mores Week with an evening of star-gazing and sweet treats. The Perseid meteor shower will be creating a beautiful natural sky show, visible through the Schuykill Center’s high-power telescopes. Monday, August 11th, 9 – 11 PM, 8480 Hagy’s Mill Rd., $5 non-members, $3 members, Register.
  • Acoustic Tuesday s @ the PHS Pop-Up Garden: Enjoy the sounds of root reggae performed by Jeff Ferrara of Spokey Speaky at the Pop-Up garden. Part of a weekly series, the garden will be complimented with free acoustical music performances for you to enjoy. Tuesday, August 12th, 5:30 – 7:30 PM, 313 S. Broad St., Free.
  • Women Bike PHL Coffee Club: The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia’s Women Bike PHL program meets each Wednesday at a different Philly coffee shop for an informal meet-up for Philly’s women cyclists, sharing tips, rant, support, and celebrate biking together. The program meets to inspire and encourage more women cyclists through rides, workshops, and social events. This week’s gathering is at Ultimo Coffee! Wednesday, August 13th, 8 – 9 AM, 2149 Catharine St., Free.
  • Night Market: The Night Market is back celebrating Philly’s local and very vibrant restaurant and food truck offerings! Hosted by the Food Trust since 2010, the market promises to be a night to celebrate with dozens of vendors with diverse food and drinks to offer. Come out and join in the fun! Some of our favorites will be there too! Thursday, August 14th, 6 – 10 PM, Lancaster & 35th St.          
Linh Kostiuk

Linh studies Architectural Technologies at Philadelphia University and spent a previous semester studying Sustainability in Copenhagen, Denmark. These experiences home and abroad inspired her to take a closer look at her personal impact on the environment and ways to lessen it. Whether she's reminding others to recycle or supporting local farmers markets, she knows those small steps can add up to a greater positive change.
