The summer solstice is around the corner, and Philly is packed with events to celebrate the official start of summer.
Whether you want to party on a farm, celebrate local food or gardens, join a cleanup or hackathon, we’ve got the best fun and green options for you:
Camphill Kimberton’s Hootenanny: The Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust is sponsoring a local food and music festival this Saturday, June 21st. Join the Hootenanny to celebrate local artists and culture while enjoying live music and local organic food. There are many children friendly events including games, face painting, tractor rides, and dancing. Tickets are $10 ($8 in advance); Children 10 and under are free. Festivities are from 2-10pm at 1601 Pughtown Road, Kimberton, PA.
Hoedown to Benefit WWCP: Celebrate the Summer Solstice on June 21st with an evening of farm-fresh food, live music, and outdoor games. Because the Hoedown is on one of Philly’s Largest Urban Farms, guests are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket or chairs. Tickets are $35. The Hoedown is a 21+ event. Music and food is from 6-9pm at 1 Awbury Rd, Philadelphia, PA.

Community Gardens Day: The Neighborhood Gardens Trust is opening the summer season with the first citywide Community Gardens Day on Saturday, June 21st, from 10am-3pm. The morning begins with a free special event at Bel Arbor Community Garden, 10th and Kimball Streets in South Philadelphia. Afterward, more than 28 gardens are open to the public where you can join garden tours, participate in arts and crafts projects, take gardening workshops, and much more!
Summer Crush Cleanup: The STAR community is hosting a community clean up and resource day on Saturday, June 21st. Volunteers will clean the streets and yards in a 4 block radius around the Frances J. Myers Recreation Center (5800 Kingsessing Ave., Philadelphia, PA) from 9am-1pm. After the clean up volunteers are welcome to attend the free Community Resource Day at the recreation center, where they can learn about community issues and volunteer issues.
Philly EcoCamp: EcoCamp is a series of events to promote sustainability and environment through technology happening in Philadelphia June 20th-22nd. There are workshops, conferences, and a Hackathon. Tickets are $15 for Friday’s Workshops or Saturday/Sunday’s Conference and Hackathon. Tickets for the full event only cost $25. Coffee and lunch are provided.
Bartram’s Garden Community River Fest: Bartram’s Garden is hosting a Festival both on land and in the water with fun events for the whole family. On Sunday, June 22nd, from 10am-4pm, there will be boat parades, a floating ice cream parlor and brass band, costume party, nature scavenger hunts, a petting zoo, a farmer’s market, and much more! All events are free and open to the public on the Lower Schuylkill River, 54th Street and Lindbergh Boulevard, Philadelphia PA.
