Beer Tastings, Morning Coffee, and Solar Parties: Green Week Guide 8/18 – 8/21

Got a case of the Mondays? Try one of these great, green events to cheer you up!

Whether you’re interested in just sitting back and listening to some music or partying on the roof, there are tons events going on this week!

Here are a couple of our favorite events for this upcoming week:

  • State Representative Steve McCarter Food Drive: Have some spare canned food that you’re looking to get rid of? Every week day through August 26th, State Representative McCarter is hosting a food drive at his district office. He accepts all non-perishable food items. 9 AM – 5 PM, 215 South Easton Road, Glenside, PA

    Acoustic Tuesdays at the PHS Pop Up Garden: Every Tuesday evening the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society hosts free acoustical music performances in the Pop Up Garden. This Tuesday will feature Brian LaPann, a blues/rock artist! Tuesday, August 19th, 5:30 – 7:30 PM, 1438 South Street

  • Penn Environment Fundraiser: Join PennEnvironment this Tuesday at American Sardine Bar as they unveil a special new beer! Tickets are only $25 and include the beer plus some free food as well! All proceeds go towards PennEnvironment’s efforts to stop fracking. Tuesday, August 19th, 6 – 9 PM, 1801 Federal Street
  • Morning Meadows Walks: Come start your day with a guided tour of the Bowman Hill Wildflower Preserve! You’ll learn about native warm season grasses, meadow ecology and plant-pollinator interactions while observing the grasses, native bees and butterflies, and insects gathering nectar. The tour is free for members and included with admission for non-members. Wednesday, August 20th, 10 – 11 AM, 1635 River Road, New Hope, PA

    Coffee Club: Are you a female biker? Do you want to be? Come join the Women Bike PHL Group every Wednesday for an informal gathering where women bikers can share tips and support with each other. This Wednesday the group will be meeting at Menagerie Coffee! Wednesday, August 20th, 8 – 9 AM, 18 South 3rd Street

  • Fitness in the Garden – Unite Fitness is hosting a 5K fun run this Thursday for people of all fitness levels. The race will start and finish at the PHS Pop Up Garden so you can finish off the race with some great food and beer! Thursday, August 21, 6 PM, 1438 South Street
  • Solar Party: Join Solar States on the top of the Crane Arts building for their Solar Party. The event will include local beverages and food and the chance to mingle with sustainability celebrities! Thursday, August 21st, 5 – 10 PM, 1400 North American Street
Catharine Gaylord

Catharine was an Editorial Intern in 2014. From growing up in Damascus, Maryland to studying Marketing and Finance at Saint Joseph’s University, she got her first taste of sustainability in Elementary School when her mother went on a recycling binge and got the family on board. She assumes she'll probably be something like that when she grows up, too. She loves her other roles as a Resident Assistant and barista at Starbucks. In her spare time, she loves to go for long runs, reading Game of Thrones, and watching Hockey.
