New Upgrades on Phila Bikeways thanks to “Knitting the Network”

Four bike lanes will be getting makeovers.

The Philadelphia Streets Department announced new additions and upgrades to city bikeways. The final portion of the Knitting the Network grant Project is an estimated $500,000, funded by a PA Department of Community and Economic Development Multimodal Transportation Fund grant and Automated Red Light (ARLE) funds.

Lanes additions and upgrades will include pavement marketings and flexible delineator posts (aka protected bike lanes) on Race Street, Torresdale Avenue, North 14th and 15th Streets.

Work inlcuded in the project:

  • Race Street, 8th Street to 6th Street – parking-protected bike lane
  • Torresdale Avenue, at the Pennypack Creek Trail – protected bike lanes
  • North 13th Street, Spring Garden Street to Green Street – paint-buffered bike lane
  • North 15th Street, Lehigh Avenue to Girard Avenue – green-backed shadows and edge lines
