New park renovations, SBN Director steps down, & more

Newly renovated playground and basketball court in Port Richmond. Cohocksink Recreation Center in Port Richmond just opened a new playground, basketball court, and updated safety measures. Councilmember Mark Squilla, who was present at the grand reopening, praised the new rec center for “its accessible design, dynamic play spaces, and safety features.” 

Executive Director of Sustainable Business Network steps down. Devi Ramkissoon, the Executive Director of Philadelphia’s Sustainable Business Network, is leaving the role as of August 22nd to become Montgomery County’s first-ever Chief Sustainability Officer. SBN will be announcing an interim director as they search for a permanent ED. 

New riverfront park opens in Northeast Philadelphia. Robert A. Borski, Jr. Park is now open in northeast Philadelphia where Delaware Avenue and Orthodox Street meet. According to the park’s announcement, parkgoers can expect “free, outdoor programming along the river, including: free outdoor movie nights, yoga, bird walks, and Parks on Tap.”

Initiative aims to reduce food packaging waste. Philly Unwrapped is a project to reduce single-use plastics in the food sector. The Unwrapped coalition includes environmental policy experts, waste advocacy groups, and food businesses.
