Councilmember Gilmore Richardson appointed to EPA Local Government Advisory Committee

Committee will provide independent policy advice to EPA; KGR joins 33 new appointees

The EPA announced 34 new appointments to the Local Government Advisory Committee (LGAC) last week. Out of the 39-member LGAC, it includes 20 women, 15 people of color, and representation from 30 states, Tribal nations and US territories.

Local appointments include Philadelphia City Councilmember, Katherine Gilmore Richardson (LGAC) and Delaware Secretary of Agriculture, Michael T. Scuse (LGAC).

The Local Government Advisory Committee was chartered in 1993 under the Advisory Committee Act, and provides independent policy advice to the EPA Administrator on a broad range of issues affecting local governments.

Gilmore Richardson aims to elevate environmental challenges for Philadelphia to the federal level. “Philadelphia just experienced another heatwave and our second heat health emergency of the summer. We have also seen devastating flooding caused by extreme storms and ozone action days for air quality. Climate change is impacting us now, and these impacts are not felt equitably,” said Gilmore Richardson in a press release.

The EPA received over 150 nominations for the committee.
