The Roxborough CDC collaborated with Jefferson University’s MS in Sustainable Design program to reimagine Ridge Avenue. Students, guided by faculty and community input, proposed sustainable solutions such as green spaces, stormwater infrastructure, and enhanced walkability. There was a potential chemical contamination on the Bartram’s Mile Trail at Bartram’s Garden. Fishing and boating have been canceled until further notice, and a portion of the trail is also closed. Although the nonprofit was notified on July 15th, the Philadelphia Water Department and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) were notified of the possible contamination as early as April 2024.
Pennsylvania proposed a ban of PFAS, aka forever chemicals, in products by 2027. House Bill 2238 would ban selling a range of products, including outdoor apparel, with added PFAS chemicals by 2027-2029.
