Reliable Glass Storage in the Kitchen: Kick Plastic with Wean Green

After learning more about plastics (and especially how heating plastics can lead to nasty chemicals leaking), I’ve made a pledge to start replacing plastics with sustainable alternatives … starting with my kitchen.

Wean Green is a Canadian company “dedicated to providing parents with safe and environmental baby products that fit into every parent’s diaper bag.” Their eco-tempered glassware is targeted for parents and children, but can work wonders for anyone that wants eco-friendly alternatives to plastic storage in their kitchen. Made of recycled and sustainable glass, you can have a clean conscious from buying these, too. (They’re made from sand, limestone & soda ash which are recyclable forever, long after yore finished with them.)

Wean Green products are portable, leak-proof, and safe to transfer from heat to freezer. Safe from chemicals & breakage-proof, you can pack it in kid’s lunches or store homemade baby food (which is how they’re advertised).

Wean Green sent me a sample “Back 2 School” set in Pea (green), which included a 150 ML Wean Tub, 120 ML Square Lean Cube & a 490 ML Lunch Cube.  Since no tiny humans are lucky enough to have me for a mother, I decided to try them out for my own lunches.

The products are perfect for all members of the family, not only kids. The Square Lean Cube & Wean Tub are both perfect for lunch snacks. I was able to stash pistachios in the Wean Tub, Kale Chips (which I shared with my happy co-worker) in the Lunch Cube, and a couple treats of pb-filled pretzel in the Square Lean Cube. The lids are extremely sturdy and easy to snap on, as well – It’s not awkward to close them unlike other flimsy varieties I’ve tried.  Packing those little snacks with a few pieces of fruit and a ‘main course’ for lunch keep me satisfied from leaving the house before 7 and returning 12 hours later.

Overall, the products are a great choice for all members of the family. Unsure if their glass is actually break proof? I’m a huge klutz and dropped the container on day 1 of my trial… and it didn’t even scratch. They have various sizes and packages available so you can mix and match your lunches each week.  Plus, the pieces are small enough that I can fit them nicely in my Built lunch bag.
