Simple Summertime Barbeque Tips

The recent heat waves have me humming Will Smith’s “Summertime” and The Lovin Spoonful’s “Hot Summer in the City” embarrassingly often…

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest it’s time to share some summer appropriate bbqing advice…

Grill wisely : Choose a electric or clean-burning propane grill over the charcoal variety. Charcoal is a major cause of poor air quality.  If you must use charcoal go for brands harvested from sustainable forests.

Feast on earth-friendly eats: If you’re feeding a veggie loving crowd opt  for corn on the cob and vegetable kabobs with organic and locally grown portabello mushrooms (very satiating), zucchini, summer squash, tomatoes, eggplant, onions… the possibilities are endless. Most vegetables taste delicious grilled with just a little olive oil, salt and pepper.

If you’ve gotta have your meat choose organic chicken and grass-fed beef.

Serve and reserve: Just because barbecues mean plastic and disposable plates and cutlery to some doesn’t mean you have to conform.  Your washable serving-ware is sure to class up the event. Another good option is to look for biodegradable or recycled-paper plates and napkins.
