Conscious Alchemy: All-natural beauty treats by PA company

Last week I had the opportunity to talk to Kephri, the founder and one-woman business driver, manufacturer and marketer behind Conscious Alchemy.  Conscious Alchemy is a York, PA-based company that produces a collection of organic and vegan cosmetic & beauty products.

Kephri’s passion for all natural health and beauty products began at a young age.  She grew up a city-girl but found herself drawn to gardening and vegetation.  She started Conscious Alchemy in ’05 and has been selling through her on-line store, at festivals and more recently her products are available at Roots Market in two Maryland locations.

Conscious Alchemy offers everything from luxury soaps and body butters to oils and hair products.  With soaps with names like “Be Peace” and “Garden Goodness” it’s the kind of stuff of that makes you feel like you’re treating yourself but that you also feel good about using and purchasing.

So what makes Conscious Alchemy such a good choice for your beauty needs and wants?

  • All of Conscious Alchemy’s products are packaged in recycable materials.  She’s put a clever, eco-friendly spin on packaging – All of her soaps come in sweet seedable paper.  So in the spring, you can plant the paper.  Kephri says that she reuses anything suitable to try and decrease her carbon footprint anyway she can. “I’ll use plastic baggies that things are shipped to me in, even my kids’ homework if I can!” she said.
  • As a Mom to a highly allergic child, Kephri will custom-make most products.  This is something not many companies are willing to do. She sees her clients as her friends and in the past has designed products for customers with eczema, migraines, foot allergies etc.
  • Kephri’s involvement in every aspect of her business means you’re purchasing from someone who has real passion for what they do.  As we have more & more choices from major corporate retailers, I always like to support that ‘local’ business that just seems to have more heart… From talking with Kephri it was clear that making products that make people feel good is important to her.  Plus you know what you’re getting is “fresh” and not pumped out an assembly line in another country several months ago.

Kephri says her most popular product is Sacred Soap (a mix of sage and cedar.)  Philadelphia residents & beyond can checkout more of her products here and easily place orders on-line in time for the upcoming holiday season.
