Green Your Sex Life

Here at Green Philly Blog, we try greening all aspects of our lives…which is why time between-the sheets is another area you can sustain-it-up.  Here’s a few ways to green your sex life:

  • Wear eco-undies… Organic cotton, hemp silk, bamboo & renewable fibers by brands like Urban Fox make time in the bedroom eco-friendly and fun.
  • Light up eco-friendly candles to get in the mood… Soy or beeswax are greener alternatives
  • Save electricity by turning off the lights… or at least use CFL’s if they’re on.
  • Eat fair-trade chocolate with your lover.
  • For those who want to use toys in the bedroom – many contain phthalates, used to soften hard plastics like PVC & provide a jelly-feeling. Unfortunately concerns about the toxicity, hormonal changing & birth defects of PVCs have caused bans in other countries. Instead, choose products made from glass, metal, silicone, hard plastics, or elastomers for a sexy time romp.
  • Many lubricants are made from petroleum, which is notso eco-friendly. Companies like Yes and Good Clean Love were designed with sustainability in mind so you could green your sex life by using natural ingredients.
  • If you’re a fan of a shower for two, conserve water by taking things to the bedroom when things heat up, turning off the water or putting a bucket at the bottom to reuse the water for thirsty plants later.
  • Wrap it up: Humans are wasteful – so creating another one isn’t the greenest option. Use protection – and if you want to go super-eco, vegan condoms are a wise choice to green your sex life.
  • Place used condoms in the trash after sex instead of flushing down the toilet. One exception to the 3 R’s…
  • Choose natural sheets like organic cotton, sustainable bamboo, organic hemp, or soy sheets – buying organic ensures less pesticides and resources were used for your skin’s comfort.
