10 Biggest Assumptions about a Green “Blogger” (AKA Happy 7 Years, GPB.)

Happy 7 years, Green Philly Blog!

Oh, how you’ve grown over the years, little blog. Heck, you didn’t even have your sexy new logo or sweet new birthday suit last year at this time! But every day you get better… (at I think/hope, for the readers’ sake…)

Although I’ve done a few sentimental posts/reflecting on stats during blogiversaries in years past, I wanted to give you guys a more humorous gift today.

Over the years, I’ve come to terms that people will stereotype me as Co-Founder / Editor / Owner of Green Philly Blog. But as somethings change, some things stay the same… So I’ve captured a few of my favs. Enjoy! 🙂

10 Assumptions People Make When You Write A ‘Green’ Blog:

“Yep, she’s definitely hiked this.” – Stereotypical reader thought
  1. I will be offended if you don’t recycle. (I’d rather see you compost and buy less disposable crap in the first place. Or just get cloth diapers for your new baby. For real.)
  2. People will call it “Philly Green Blog”, confident they have the correct name. (Hint: Look at the URL.)
  3. They will apologize for not reading the blog everyday. (I don’t think I read it everyday…)
  4. They will assume I shop at Whole Foods, ditched my car / hate anything except for Telsas, any do everything remotely sustainable for hobbies. (OK, so maybe this isn’t too far off…)
  5. I will care about the latest (and EVERY) environmental article they found online. Or that I am perhaps already an expert on the matter.
  6. I will answer any recycling question in seconds (or know where to get rid of anything – including moth balls, hair dryers and more) in a sustainable fashion. But hey – that’s how Where Can I Wednesday was born.
  7. The blog is my full-time career. (It’s not, by any stretch of the imagination. But I did quit my 9-to-5 in April to launch a digital marketing consulting firm, Green Philly Company, in part due to my work on this puppy.)
  8. I’m going to blog about anything they do that’s green, including what they buy at a grocery store – if I witness them doing it. (It’s quite possible I can barely write about topics I want to write about, let alone my daily routine.)
  9. There will be at least one joke about taking photos of me throwing something in the trash, ‘accidentally’ littering due to a wind gust or eating meat. (Desperate times call for… man…)
  10. I can blog about anything upon request. For nothing in exchange. Review #7 – although running a blog for the last 7 years has led to many opportunities, it’s still a lot. of hard. work. And dear PR / brand reps / professionals, please note that this work doesn’t come for free. So don’t ask for something for nothing. Many other bloggers have explained this. Like this. And This.

After 7 years and many changes to the website, I’m still happy out of all my relationships, the one with this little ‘blog’ may be the longest…
