Reading Terminal Launches Summer Local Food Rotation

Summer is the season of farmer’s markets, and starting Saturday, you can find one in Philly’s famous Reading Terminal.

The indoor market will host a weekly “Local Food Section” throughout the summer and fall harvest season, spotlighting a rotating selection of delicious products from farmers and food artisans in the region.

The initiative is the result of a partnership between Reading Terminal and Farm to City, an organization that currently operates 14 producer-only farmers markets in and around Philadelphia.

“We are very pleased to increase the number of local producer-only purveyors in the Market,” said Bob Pierson, Founder and Director of Farm to City. “Our mission is to unite communities, families and farmers year round through good locally-sourced food. We feel this partnership with the Reading Terminal Market will expand the local food movement as producers gain greater exposure in this iconic Philadelphia institution.”

This weekend’s selection includes produce from Sharrah Orchards; goat cheeses from Shellbark Hollow Farm in Honey Brook; and fresh cut flowers from Triple Tree in Lancaster.

You can find the Local Food Section at the intersection of Avenues 3 and B, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday.
