The Islands and the Whales
In the mist-shrouded Faroe Archipelago, islanders rely on pilot whales, slain during gruesome hunts, as a sustainable food source. Facing animal rights groups and rising mercury levels in the whales, the community finds itself at the crux of tradition and modernity. Footage in this film may be upsetting to some viewers.
This film is part of the Green on Screen film series, presented in collaboration with the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church’s Environmental Justice Committee. Lisa J. Rodrigues, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Villanova University, will lead the post-film discussion.
