Powering our Neighborhoods is a day of family-friendly performance and community learning, hosted by the Neighborhood Advisory Council of the People’s Emergency Center. The event will take place at The Bank, 3750 Lancaster Ave.
From 10:30 to 12:30 speakers and workshops will provide information and resources on how local neighborhoods are affected by clean energy practices and how community members can get involved. Featured speakers include Councilwoman Blackwell, Solarize Philly, and Ready for 100, an organization working to advance Philly’s commitment to renewable energy.
At 12:30 Philly’s musical duo Ants on a Log will perform their musical, “Curious: Think Outside the Pipeline!” The show follows the story of two young siblings who organize their community to fight for clean air. With the help of a songful community of characters, Clio and Taylor learn to stand up for their beliefs, striving to make big change even in the face of some bigger, more powerful people. While the plot is fictional, the musical is based on actual, recent events in Philadelphia. The show runs 45 min and is recommended for children 6 and up.
This event is free, and all are welcome to attend any part of the day. Before the musical, free childcare will be provided and free food will be provided by EAT Cafe. This event is supported in part by Climate and Urban Systems Partnership (CUSP) in partnership with the Philadelphia Office of Sustainability.
