Join POP for a spring open house and plant sale at the POP Learning Orchard at the Woodlands! Come visit the demonstration orchard and see what’s growing, and pick up some perennial plants for your garden from POP’s expanded nursery. Plants available for sale will include figs, serviceberries, blueberries, rhubarb, and a range of other fruiting trees, shrubs, vines, and some perennial flowers and herbs (plant price list available on POP’s event listing). The Open House is a free event but donations to support POP’s ongoing programs are appreciated.
A representative of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service will be on site with a soil health demo, as well as information to share about NRCS programs and opportunities that support urban agriculture.
There will also be an exciting hands-on activity and demonstration led by Nicole Dupree of Ampersand Textile! Learn how to make natural dyes and drawing ink from orchard prunings and fallen branch bark, and make & take your own botanical print or ink drawing. All botanical inks and natural dyes for the Open House were made from cherry, peach, and plum bark peeled from pruning cuttings at POP’s pruning workshop in March. See some exciting updates on the Ampersand Textile IG feed.
The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild will be on hand with info about urban bee-keeping & the importance of pollinators, honey for sale, and an observation hive.
Thank you to The Rounds for sponsoring this event; a representative will be on site with product samples, give-aways, and information about their zero-waste delivery program. Tasty snacks will be provided by Golden Dragon, a Black- and Asian-operated West Philly restaurant.
Rain date is Sunday 5/15.
