Climate change is not just altering the landscape of polar icecaps and the rain forest; it is changing the way our communities look as well. In urban environments like Philadelphia, climate change means increasing environmental threats, health hazards, and dwindling resources. What can be done to prepare our neighborhoods for these changes? Historically, cooperative businesses have been used as a means to stabilize communities through building their resource capacity, empowering community members, and creating self-sufficient economies. Cooperative enterprises are also sites for deepening democratic practices and ways of being with one another that enhance civic engagement in neighborhoods. Could more cooperative business development lead to a more resilient Philadelphia? Join us as we hear from the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance, Jamila Medley, to talk about the power of cooperatives and how local Philadelphians are already working together to bring resiliency to their communities.
This event will take place in Room 320 at Temple University’s Center City campus.
