TerraCycle Installs Plastic Trap in Thailand for World Oceans Day

New Jersey-based company’s foundation focuses on collecting and recycling plastic waste in developing countries.

In honor of World Oceans Day, the TerraCycle Thai Foundation installed a river plastic capture trap in Bangkok, Thailand. The device, placed in the waterway of Khodpor public park in Rayong, intercepts plastic waste before it enters waterways and oceans.

There will be two collection devices installed in Thailand. Terracycle Foundation pledged to sustainably recycle the waste collected and turn it into new products. “By directly collecting, as well as engaging with a wide range of NGOs to collect plastic from waterways, and using our recycling solutions to process it into a high-grade material that manufacturers can integrate it into new products, we want to show there is value in these otherwise discarded plastics,” said Terracycle CEO & Chairman of the Board, TerraCycle Global Foundation, Tom Szaky.”

The New Jersey-based company, TerraCycle, partners with companies (often consumer brands like Gilette and Burt’s Bees) to process hard-to-recycle materials, turning them into new products. The TerraCycle Global Foundation focuses on collecting and recycling plastic waste in emerging countries.

June 8th marks the annual World Oceans Day, a global movement to protect, celebrate, and preserve Earth’s aquatic ecosystem.
